What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When I first meet a student, I like to learn about their voice. I'll have them prepare any song of their choice to sing for me. From there, I can learn their range, their skill level, see what techniques may need the most work. Then we can really begin working on vocal exercises in order to improve their skills.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a certified voice teacher from the John Henny Contemporary Voice Teacher's Academy and am currently studying with voice teacher legend Justin Stoney at the NY Vocal Coaching Voice Teacher's program. I studied voice at the Community College of Baltimore County and Institute of American Musical Theatre. On top of these, I spent years training with the best teachers NYC has to offer and continue to study with top teachers to this day.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've always loved singing and acting. But I'm pretty sure it's in my genes to teach. My mother and my sister both teach music professionally as well. When I was as young as sixteen years old, I would be helping my friends in shows I did to improve their technique. I would go over to a neighbor's house to help their son learn to sing in tune. The moment I moved out of Maryland, I started teaching on the side and the rest is history.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with students age 6-70's of all skill levels. Whether you're preparing to perform in a leading role on Broadway or have never sung before in your life, I can help you out.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently finished directing/music directing a local production of Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory for under 18. Every rehearsal, I ran the kids through some vocal warmups before we start working. EVERY SINGLE KID improved their range, how long they could hold notes, their placement...some kids who could barely hold a tune before are now singing three part harmony beautifully! I couldn't be prouder.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you connect with the teacher and trust them. There's a lot of misinformation about singing in this world. You have to make sure the teacher you're working with knows the right info about the specific genre you're singing.
