Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my vocal instruction page! If you are here, chances are that you've been looking for ways to build your vocal skills, bolster your confidence and find your voice. Wonderful! I am a Berklee College of Music alumnus, and I have worked for 15 years with hundreds of vocalists to discover and strengthen their unique voice and talents, and achieve their vocal goals. From getting cast in musicals, films and jingles to recording original CDs and fronting bands, even to getting over stage fright to sing karaoke--my students have achieved tremendous success. I have performed and toured all over the world, recorded multiple albums and commercial jingles/ad spots, and I've worked with everyone from absolute beginner to professional performers--so you are in good hands! I love working with such a huge variety of singers. I have students from age 9-90, and they all bring unique talents to the table. In one day, I may work on jazz, country, blues, musical theatre and Motown songs--I love it all! If you are hoping to find a classically-trained vocal coach that focuses on contemporary styles and what YOU want to learn (rather than the Bel Canto Classical repertoire), then we will be a great fit for one another! My lessons all focus on technique, style, breath support and control, and most importantly finding your own, unique voice. Each lesson is different and tailored to the student. If you want to learn how to tap into your vibrato, expand your range or build your vocal power, I can get you there! :)

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I try to keep my rates very competitive, near or below the market rate. I offer package discounts as well--the more lessons you sign on for, the better the discount. I also offer the option of 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons, so students may choose which option fits their budget best.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I will typically consult with a prospective student to get a sense of their goals, experience level, and their "wish list" for repertoire, song styles and genres. I will determine whether or not I think we are a good fit for one another, and if so we put an initial lesson onto the calendar and go from there!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
After working towards a BFA from the University of Minnesota in Theatre Arts/Music, I attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I've studied with renowned vocal coaches and musicians from around the globe, and continue to receive professional training as a studio owner and performer.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been singing for most of my life, but didn't decide to become a voice teacher until becoming a student at Berklee College of Music. I studied with teachers that truly changed my life, and I knew from then on that I'd love to do the same. I am not only a vocal coach, but an active, working vocalist and songwriter. This keeps my skills sharp and my industry knowledge up to date.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have helped students prepare for auditions, record and arrange original music, learn to sing and breathe properly while dancing, and increase support, strength and control. I help choose repertoire, proper keys and guide the song interpretation. Audition prep is a huge part of my practice, and I have a musical theater song library in the thousands! I excel at choosing the right audition piece for each show and student. I work with kids ages 9 and above, from novices to professionals.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When looking for a voice teacher, you need to find someone that not only has the proper credentials, but fully understands your goals and intent (and wants to help you reach them!). Your teacher should serve as mentor, guidance counselor and friend.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Clientele should know what they are hoping to achieve with voice lessons. Is this for a specific performance, an audition, or just overall improvement? They should also know that vocal lessons are a commitment, just as piano or guitar lessons are a process and commitment. Good improvement and mastery of skills takes time!
