Introduction

I teach contemporary music (jazz, blues, folk, pop, country, etc) and classical music. My specialties are jazz and improvisation. I offer in-studio music lessons in Richfield, MN and online lessons nationwide. My students are performing musicians, casual musicians, beginners, composers & songwriters. They sing, play piano, keyboard, acoustic guitar and banjo. Each of my students has a personal page on my website providing them with easy access to their lesson materials. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first thing I do is learn the new student's musical interests and goals. Then, based on their current ability, I design a custom program to help them achieve these goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a B.A. degree in Music Performance from Westmar College in Iowa and continuing music education at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In addition I have been composing, performing and teaching music for over 40 years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started as a trumpet player in high school and never stopped pursuing my love of music. I play 15 different instruments, write scores for movies, and much more.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Hundreds of students from inexperienced children as young as 6 to adult professionals wanting to improve their skills.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I was granted the opportunity to write the musical score for a new movie, 39 Seconds. It's a story about one of the greatest baseball players to play professional baseball. The movie was produced in Minneapolis, MN and it took about a year to complete the score.
