Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I typically charge by the month. If a client is interested, I am more than happy to discuss a broader payment plan that would come in at a lower rate for the student.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I start with figuring out exactly what makes a student tick. I love learning about the kinds of music they are most drawn to, share some of my own favorite music with them, then lay out a rough blueprint for how we can get them on the path to success that is clear, cut, and easy to follow.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I majored in classical guitar performance at NYU and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have played guitar since I was 12 years old, have started and played with a number of bands while in high school and college, and during my graduate program.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
It all started when I was in high school and had a number of friends who were curious about playing guitar. I would have them over, we would listen to music together, then pull out guitars, and I would show them what we had just been listening to.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
You name it! I have had students from the age of 3 to the age of 83. Students who could barely pluck a tune, students who are on pace for entering conservatory programs, or students who wanted to take part in jam sessions with family and friends.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Some of my absolute favorite students are the ones who are complete beginners. It’s such a rewarding experience to be able to share my love of the guitar and music with somebody.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Pedigree and prestige and resumes are all great from a teacher, but ultimately it’s going to come down to who you connect with on a personal level. Find a teacher who can motivate and inspire.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I think in the case of guitar lessons, not thinking too much is super helpful. It’s your teacher’s job to curate your education. Certainly, if any question ever arises, a student should bring it up with their teacher if they really want to get a sense of the “why?”
