Introduction

With 40 years of experience performing, studying voice and teaching in Europe and the US, I have thoroughly researched and developed a completely physiological method of training the voice which involves strengthening the specific muscles which control the singing voice while simultaneously eliminating all unnecessary muscular involvement. This technique is highly effective and extremely efficient. Many students who studied for years with other teachers have said that they felt they had made a years' worth of progress in the first month of lessons. This technique works equally well for all styles of singing. I also coach songs and repertoire, provide vocal therapy and career counseling and am available for pre-production and co-production of vocals for recording sessions. I hold a Bachelors Degree in Voice Teaching from the Birmingham Conservatoire, U.K., and a Master of Music in Voice Degree from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia.

$85 per hour-long lesson.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Each student starts off with an evaluation during which I explain specifically what I hear in their voice, what needs to be worked on and my teaching method.

Master of Music in Voice, B.A. in Voice Teaching and Voice Performance.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I took my first singing lessons in 1974 have been studying vocal pedagogy ever since.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Many of my students are singing professionally and recording albums.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

It all has to do with where you are at this particular time in your vocal development, where you want to go and what you still need to unlock your greatest vocal potential. It is fairly safe to say that if you are a complete beginner, you will most likely need at least some technical work and voice building or strengthening for the first few months, regardless of how much natural talent you have. There is no point in playing an instrument if it hasn't been built. When you first walk into a teacher's studio, they should explain to you in very specific technical terms what it is they will be working on with you, at least initially. Be wary of a teacher who just says that you have no technique or that you simply suck without explaining why and what they plan to do about it. Your voice is a very personal expression of who you are and therefore a teacher should always be supportive, encouraging and monumentally patient, never negative or degrading, which is simply unacceptable under any circumstances. Your teacher should take a holistic approach to teaching you, evaluate where you are coming from, what your ambitions are and how it relates to what they will be working on with you. And they should explain all this to you in understandable terms.
