Introduction

Please note: I would be very happy to work with you and help you improve your voice. But please note that my studio is in Manhattan on West 66th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. So if you would like to choose me, please be sure that you are willing to travel into Manhattan if you live further away. Much thanks! If you want to learn about your voice and improve your range and repertoire, I believe your will work well with me. I teach a solid vocal and acting technique and my students improve quickly (if they are committed and work hard!) I also have a voice class once a month so my students get a chance to perform their audition/performance pieces and receive acting direction. I love music and performing - it feels me with joy. I enjoy so much now, teaching others what I've learned throughout my life. It is wonderful to see how my students improve and find their voice and confidence. I charge $80 for an hour lesson.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $80/hour. I also will do a 45 minute lesson for $70. I generally do not do 30 minute lessons because I cannot cover everything we need to in that time (go through exercises and repertoire).

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The first thing I do is welcome the new student. I explain what technique is and how important it is to improving the voice. We go through specific exercises and I explain what each one if for and how it will help. We spend about half the lesson on exercises and half on repertoire.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Stetson University and a Masters of Music in Voice from Manhattan School of Music. I also have 30+ years experience singing at New York City Opera and other venues. In fact, I continue to study voice with a wonderful teacher, Mr. David Jones. David is my teaching mentor as well. He holds two Teaching Seminars on teaching voice and the Swedish-Italian technique each year in NYC that I attend. He actually does these seminars all over the U.S. and in Europe. I continue to study, practice and work on my voice which gives me great joy. If you don't use it, you lose it!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I always loved singing. I started studying piano at age 6 (my older brother studied piano and I followed in his footsteps). I studied through High School - but then I found my voice and starred in the musicals. Once I did that, I had to sing! And since I come from a family of teachers, it was just a natural extension for me to teach.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with all genres of music: classical, broadway, opera, pop. I have taught opera singers, broadway singers, dancers and actors. I have advanced, as well as beginning students. I feel strongly that if you really want to learn to sing - you can! And I find that a number of students come in and think they don't have a voice - when, in fact, they do!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I worked with a wonderful soprano to help her prepare for an audition for a big agent. She sang beautifully and impressed the agents. Frankly, she had a remarkable voice - I just helped her fine tune it. She was a joy to work with!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Go with your gut. If you are attracted to a profile, go have a lesson. See if you like the teacher. Is she/he positive? Make you feel comfortable? Professional? Does she/he speak to you with respect and correct your mistakes without putting you down? If you like the teacher take a few months of lessons. If you are improving and enjoying yourself, you've found a great teacher. If you have any qualms about the teacher (their attitude, personality) or if you are not improving, or if you voice hurts after a lesson - leave immediately. Your teacher is performing a service for you. While teachers and students do often form personal connections, if you need or want to leave the teacher, just say you want to move on. The good teachers will understand. Also - you might read an interview that I did with Classical Singer about how to find a great teacher. If you would like to read the article you can find it on my website which you will find elsewhere in my profile.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I have a lifetime of experience to share and I am a really good teacher.
