Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Payment is due after every lesson or session. Occasionally for lessons, I will accept payment up front for the month. I typically don't offer discounts, and I charge an additional $15 for travel to a student’s home.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to get to know each student and/or artist before working with them by setting up a phone call prior to our first meeting to make sure I fully understand their goals, skill level, and any other situations that may influence their learning and/or artistry.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
My experience is vast and spans more than 20 years. I'm a classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, which has allowed me to work with an immense array of artists in musical contexts ranging from classical to pop and rock, jazz, hip/hop and rap, studio and live performance work. I've been a producer and mix engineer for the better part of 10 years, owning a recording studio in CT, and now recording/mixing/mastering for artists remotely or in-studio. I compose, arrange, and produce music, as well. My teaching experience is heavily based in Social-Emotional methodology, influenced by the teachings and theories of Dewey and Vygotsky. A formal CV is available upon request.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Music, in nearly every facet, has been a lifelong pursuit of mine. It has been my only profession. I was drawn in by music at an early age and have pursued it since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
All types of artists ranging from classical to noise. I teach all ages and have specialized experience working with adolescents in therepeutic environments.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I was commissioned to write a large-scale orchestral piece for a visual artist based in NYC. It took over a year to complete. It was an amazing learning experience for me and made me a better composer. My most fond teaching memories are those where I used music in therapeutic settings.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Get to know them. Setup an initial call and make sure they have your best interests in mind. This line of work differs greatly from general service needs and repairs. More than anything, a good result or product is determined by the relationship that can foster between you and the musician and/or teacher.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Practical questions pertaining to availability, frequency, pricing, etc. But the most important questions must be asked of yourself: are you willing to put in the work to experience the full benefits that music has to offer? Can and will you allow music to be a healing and restorative part of your day? Are you ready to make mistakes and learn from them?
