Introduction

Welcome to a student-centered approach to learning and loving music. If you’ve been struggling with difficult vocal technique that no one can seem to fix, or if you are chronically ill and no teacher understands how to help you through that, Jenni is YOUR teacher! She has three different chronic illnesses that have affected her singing her entire life. She’s had to study harder than most singers in order to maneuver through abnormal technical issues caused by her diseases. Even if you are able-bodied and have had little to no success with teachers understanding proper vocal technique, Jenni’s background will launch you to the incredible vocal breakthroughs you’ve been searching for! All lessons are focused on whatever the student wants to learn, from contemporary to opera, from songwriting to basic theory, the student runs the lessons and Jenni provides the knowledge and tools for you to succeed in any musical goals you have. Don’t be afraid to ask for help on your most intense musical desires and dreams. Jenni will accept any idea and will see you through to the end! More about Jenni Rose: Jenni Rose was born a with an inherent need to sing. Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
There are multiple different ways to do payment: per lesson, per month, and per five months. The 5 month packages are between January to May and August to December. You’ll pay a flat rate per month and have the potential for 2 free lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, I will get to know the person I am teaching and ask a few simple questions. For young students and/or beginners, I will begin teaching basic music knowledge as a whole with an emphasis on voice. For older and/or intermediate students, I will focus more on proper singing technique starting with posture and breathing with more advanced music theory and ear training. For my advanced students, I will work on repertoire with the student and anything else the student needs to further his or her singing knowledge.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I had 12 years of formal vocal lessons, music classes, and performance experience before I even started my degree in music at Oklahoma City University. While completing my degree, I took a four month course on Vocal Pedagogy, a class on how to teach singing to students. Now that I have graduated, I have continued my own personal education reading and rereading books and textbooks about proper singing technique, complete with continued voice lessons of my own.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started teaching voice in Houston, TX during the summer months in college. I also helped coach a few friends with their professional work in college and as a requirement of my Vocal Pedagogy class.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have been fortunate to have worked with every type of student, from 4 years old to 74 years old, from classical, church music to Indie Rock and RnB. Having to adjust my teaching styles and approach to meet each student’s needs has been an exciting and fun challenge.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I just completed a 40 Days of Practice challenge with my own voice teacher and her studio. 40 days, no days off, intense focused practice with video recording and journaling. I learned SO much, not just about my voice, but about my ideal practice style and needs and how to adjust them to day-to-day challenges. I also learned from everyone else who shared their experiences doing the same. I encourage all of my students to try this challenge. No only will it be eye opening, but will definitely light a fire in you like no other! What a joy to be able to sing what you love every. single. DAY!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My best two gems of advice would be 1. make sure you find a teacher who has studied body mapping/anatomy, and has a full understanding of how the body works while singing; and 2. if you find a teacher who doesn't "groove" with you, find a new one. Singing is a very intimate and vulnerable act that requires a lot of trust between teacher and pupil. If you don't get along with your teacher, your singing will show it.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Honestly, if you want to sing just for the fun of it, because you love it, because you want to learn a new skill, because for the first time in your life it's a moment to focus on YOU, then do it! The teacher will do the hard thinking for you. :)
