Introduction

I received my BFA in vocal performance in 2014 from Carnegie Mellon University, and completed my MM in vocal performance from the University of Utah in 2017. I am 32 years old and I have been singing professionally for 15 years. I have been teaching for over 10 years now and I love it! I am classically trained. In addition to opera and other classical music I have also performed in musicals, jazz ensembles, and in pop/contemporary styles. I focus on teaching a vocal technique that is healthy and reliable. I help my students to understand how their whole body functions as their instrument. In our lessons we will work to discover your authentic sound! I also offer lessons in music theory and learning to read music. I have seen my voice students go on to be accepted into competitive degree programs, high level choirs, win major competitions, and land roles in school and professional musicals. No matter what your skill level or musical interest is, I know I can help you to reach your vocal potential. I offer lessons for all ages (ages 8+) with performance opportunities at least twice per year! My studio is located in Draper, Utah, and lessons are once per week. I look forward to working with you!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $35 for 30 minute lessons, $50 for 45 minute lessons, and $65 for hour long lessons.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I love to start by talking about what kinds of music the student is interested in learning to sing. I want to understand what their goals are for their singing. A typical lesson consists of beginning with vocal warmups that help strengthen vocal technique, and then working on a song where we apply the techniques we have been focusing on.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
BFA in Vocal Performance- Carnegie Mellon University, 2014 MM in Vocal Performance- University of Utah, 2017

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started my own private teaching studio when I moved to Utah in 2014. I have been training singers ever since! I currently have 40+ students of all ages and skill levels, and who sing well in many different musical styles.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with students of all skill levels ages 8 and up! I don't recommend starting your child in voice lessons before age 8 because their voices are not developed enough yet.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice would be to make sure the teacher you are hiring truly has a strong background in voice teaching (not just singing) and knows how the voice functions. Many people who can sing well have no idea how to explain what it is they do, so make sure to find a teacher that not only is a good singer but who knows how to explain the mechanics of good singing.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It is a great idea to have a clear idea of what your singing goals are before you begin lessons. Knowing which styles of music you enjoy and want to focus on is also a plus.
