What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge an hourly rate for all of my services. I shop for quality clothing and accessories that will maintain a polished look. I take advantage of sales and discount outlets whenever possible to maximize your clothing budget.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

It is very helpful for me to see my client's current closet and take a look at clothing, shoes, jewelry and purses. We assess each item for fashion value to see if it might be incorporated into a new outfit by adding something. We make a targeted shopping list of needed items and I shop according to a client's taste level and budget at various sources. I bring merchandise to a customer's home for a personal styling session. We mix and match to get the right combination of pieces and I return the rest. We then do seasonal updates to refresh the wardrobe and keep it relevant for the customer's lifestyle, travel plans and activities.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I attend fashion shows, brand seminars and read the fashion press to stay current on design and new fabric technology.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Even in junior high school, I was helping my friends with their clothing choices. It is a life-long passion combined with years of wholesale and retail clothing and fashion experience.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I visit my customer's homes for a consultation and wardrobe evaluation. I re-organize the closet and eliminate outdated pieces. Based on what is needed, I shop a variety of stores to create a new wardrobe. I deliver the items and provide personalized styling to get the right looks coordinated. I then offer seasonal updates, once a core wardrobe is established.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently worked with a young realtor who wanted to establish a more professional image with her upscale clients. We created a whole new wardrobe for work and an upcoming convention, where first impressions always count!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

If a stylist cannot dress themselves well, run the other direction. They need to have a track record of successfully dressing many types of people from all walks of life. It is essential to be honest with your personal shopper about your clothing size and overall budget.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The best personal shoppers understand their customers' lifestyle, taste, and desired look. The most important aspect in a shopper is to understand body type and know how to fit anyone in the most flattering styles and silhouettes. Most of my customers have previously purchased the wrong clothing that does not fit them well.
