Introduction

Your wardrobe can be your most powerful asset and advantage in attracting excellent opportunities for your business and social life. If yours isn't doing that, let's build one that does. I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and work all over South Florida in person. I have an excellent virtual program if you are outside of my area. I work with individuals who are ready to become sought-after leaders in their respective industries. People who are prepared to step up and take the lead... So, if you're reading this, you are one step away from shifting out of wardrobe overwhelm and into the confident, credible, and charismatic individual you know you're meant to be. Please message me to request a Zoom call, and Let's Go! ***************************

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge a flat fee for the entire project, and not by the hour as Thumbtack suggests. Projects vary widely and therefore, so do prices. The consultation is the place for me to learn about you and I use that time to form a shopping/styling strategy and determine the pricing for the project. A flat fee is the best way to get the most out of my service. I like to focus on you and not on the clock. I am an expert at staying within your shopping budget. Many times clients have no idea how much to expect to spend on clothes or what a Personal Stylist fee would be. I will always give you honest guidance regarding what it will take money-wise to accomplish your goals. Think of my service as an investment in you. Investments are not simply costs - investments have returns, and you will receive many times the cost of my fee in the way of confidence, compliments, and the feeling of being in control of your image and style. Priceless!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
It all starts with a conversation in person or on Zoom. I'll want to hear about your challenges and why you're seeking help now. Plus, we can meet from anywhere in the world on Zoom. It's amazing when you really think about it! I use the consultation time to get clear on your needs and to get a sense of your personality and lifestyle. I also want to take a look at your closet and see what you currently own. Clothes, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. Once I see what you have and we both decide we'd like to work together - I create a shopping and styling package (online or in-person)that will get you exactly where you want to be - and in many cases exceed your expectations altogether! There is no charge for an initial consultation.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I did not go to school to become a Personal Stylist. I went to Howard University in Washington DC and then graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1986 with a degree in Communications & Broadcasting thinking I wanted to be a news anchor! Long story short, it was Personal Style Consulting that won my heart. Friends, family, and coworkers all asked for my help, no matter where I lived, and I've lived in a lot of places all over the world... It took me a long time to realize that what I know about fashion and style and how to maximize someone's appearance is something I know instinctively, and it's a talent not everyone has! I decided to make it official and start my business in January of 2007. That's 16 years at Morrissey Style Consulting and we're still going strong!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have always helped people pull their look together. It started when I was about 6 years old and my parents would be getting dressed for an event and I would be in their dressing room telling them what to wear and they liked what I told them. It was just a fun game we liked to play - and they went out a lot! It wasn't until much later I realized that I had a talent for knowing how to make people look better than they could on their own - and I could make a business out of that talent. I worked for several high-end retailers and learned to work with different body types and in January 2007, I opened Morrissey Style Consulting and a few years later - Sharp Dressed Man. Personal Styling is really a people business. I'm good with people and an excellent listener. Those two traits helped me get started and keep me going all these years later.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I am fortunate to be able to work with people from all over the world! There is no one particular type of client I work with. Mostly men and women who want to look good, but have no real skill or interest in shopping. There is a huge range there. I have clients who are CEOs of Multi-million dollar corporations to stay-at-home moms who want a practical wardrobe refresh when they find themselves dipping into a frumpy rut. I welcome anyone into the Morrissey Style Family who wants to improve their personal presentation.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently I was contacted by an International Speaker and Consultant. She wanted more bookings and felt her wardrobe and confidence needed a boost and were holding her back. Through Zoom, we talked about where she was and where she wanted to be. She wanted to go from Frumpy to Fantastic! When she arrived from Europe it took 3 days to outfit her for an amazing speaking career. (2 days of shopping and a few hours to complete her Book of Outfits.) I'm so pleased to say she reports that her bookings have increased by more than half and her confidence has skyrocketed right along with those bookings. But the thing that surprised her the most was how people treated her with so much more respect and attention. She couldn't believe she waited so long to make a change in her wardrobe - but is so grateful that she did!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
A Personal Stylist has to be a master of details. It's the details that make everything come together in anyone's image. So when looking to hire one, pay attention to the stylist's personal image and how well they present themselves. The way they are put together speaks to their level of competence and understanding of what it means to be a stylist. And as with any hiring decision, trust your gut - your intuition. If something seems off to you about the prospective stylist, trust that feeling and keep looking for someone you click with. Being a Stylist carries with it a responsibility. You have to trust that your stylist understands that you are putting your image in their hands and they have to take that seriously. If you get the feeling that they think it's all about them - RUN!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
All a customer needs to know is that they would like help with their image and wardrobe. I will take it from there. They know something is not working for them and my job is to find that something and make it right. That's what I do!
