Introduction

As a vocalist, I provide a fun, light-hearted show with comedic commentary and a variety of songs. I can do a one-woman show to recorded accompaniment or bring a few friends and a live pianist, depending on your budget and desires. My repertoire includes Broadway show tunes, comedic songs, arias and art songs, and jazz standards. I can provide a sound system for myself or use yours. I am professional, communicative, and easy to work with. I will respond to your messages, arrive early, provide the services I agreed to in our discussions, and clean up after myself. I have been performing in the Sacramento area for decades, first as a ballroom dancer and now as a vocalist and actress. I am equally comfortable in a cabaret setting or on stage in a musical or opera, making people laugh in a comedic role or performing a tragic aria. I feel as though I have been an entertainer since birth, and now I can put my propensity for being the center of attention to good use. Take that, Mrs. Brown from second grade! I graduated summa cum laude with a BA in music from California State University, Sacramento, with a concentration in voice and a minor in Italian. I have studied with Carrie Hennessey, Omari Tau, Robin Fisher, and Claudia Kitka. Note: I have been on Thumbtack for many years, first as a ballroom dance instructor, then as a piano and voice teacher. While I am now focusing on performing, I am still available for occasional lessons.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Music students will be required to purchase books from me. I do not overcharge for them, but I want to ensure we use books I am familiar with and like the methods used.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We will first have a consultation to determine what your goals are and if I am the right teacher for you. Then we will determine a schedule and go from there.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have taken many private lessons with local instructors, am working toward a music degree at Cosumnes River College, have shadowed with several teachers, and regularly study pedagogical techniques.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been teaching in one discipline or another since I was a teenager. Once I developed my own skills, it was a natural progression to share this with others.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
In music lessons, I have generally worked with children aged 7-13 with the occasional adult drop-in lesson. I have also taught many adult beginners to ballroom dance, whether for their wedding or other special event or helping them get the right start for a lifetime of enjoyment in ballroom dancing.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Do your research! A teacher is a personal thing. You not only want to make sure the instructor you hire knows what they're doing, but they need to be able to convey the information in a way that is conducive to the way you learn. You also want to make sure their personality is compatible with yours. Don't stay with a teacher who shakes your confidence or you don't enjoy being around--there are too many out there for the learning process to be miserable.
