The audience's experience, fun, laughs, a bit of wonder, a moment of Awww and the memories we create are what the performance is about. your guests enjoying themselves, their time with others, the event and celebration. That's where the magic happens. Years have been devoted to studying and performing magic (and theater) to craft a performance unlike any other, into the unexpected, creating a unique & fun performance. The show is created with something for everyone to enjoy and relate to. The performance includes audience interaction. (No one other is ever put on the spot and everyone is treated with the utmost respect) Please ask about personalized magical effects to honor your special guest(s). If there is a guest of honor I can include a reference (or two) to their interests in the performance (a highlight of the show). Imagine a likeness of your spouse's, friend's, family member's, CEO's, VIP's, co-worker's or child's favorite movie, literary or movie character, athlete, musician, sport or activity magically appearing in the show when they don't expect it. A bottle of wine (or similarly shaped object) can be magically produced and gifted to a guest. For corporations and company events the performance can include references to themes of meetings, products, services or events (example, for various wealth management companies five $1 bills magically changed into five $100 bills, a few companies presented the $100 bills as bonuses or prizes at their events). If you want entertainment with no personalization that's great too. The show includes experiences everyone can relate to wrapped around the magic. Part of making a connection with the audience. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Email, call or text (whatever the client is most comfortable with), asking a few questions, finding out about the guests and event to craft and present a wonderful entertainment experience.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

20+ years intense study, practice and rehearsal. Magic/Theater. My interest in and performing magic started as an adult, not as a child. Always learning, the works of Sam H. Sharpe have been a huge influence as well as the Fitzkie Trilogy, "Our Magic", the works of Tommy Wonder, Robert-Houdin, Henning Nelms "Magic and Showmanship" and Jim Steinmeyer. Incredibly fortunate to be given guidance by an enigmatic figure (an actual card man) whose name I obviously cannot mention and to whom I am extremely grateful. Also the very talented and respected Denny Haney assisted with direction in the art (and putting up with my questions). As part of my continuing education I regularly attend lectures, notable favorites being Joanie Spina, Michael Weber, Richard Osterlind, Banachek, John Carney (twice), Darwin Ortiz, Michael Ammar, Axel Hecklau, Howie Schwartzman, Christopher Bolter, and Christian Painter. Was extremely fortunate to have worked briefly with Joanie Spina as a director. She made a huge, positive impact on my work, enhanced how I create and view the art of magic. She was an amazing talent, director, teacher and humanitarian. Most of the influences on my work and performing come from outside of the world of magic and include film, literature and music. Create something that engages minds, enables viewers to think and feel and you have created art.

What types of customers have you worked with?

In over 20 years performing over 4,000+ shows Illusions by Vick has the pleasure to perform for a wide variety of clients and venues. The Smithsonian, John Hopkins, Google, Oracle and Mercedes Benz are a few examples plus over 2,000 private events including fund raisers, adult birthday celebrations, graduations and performing for Harry Potter theme events as Professor Snape. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Please try to hire as early as possible. This is even more critical in October and December. Also please consider contacting ONLY Illusions by Vick Directly through my Website for a quote. if you allow Thumbtack to send your info you could be inundated with 10 or more replies. People (maybe not even magicians) who buy the right to reply to you. You could get flooded with emails, calls and requests you didn't expect. If Illusions by Vick isn't the right fit for your event you can still get other quotes later. Depending on your needs I can recommend up to 3 other quality performers to you. Please do the due diligence and background on the performers you are interested in (put their performing name into a search engine). Try to hire a full time professional magician. This is their career and they have to make certain your event is the best.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

1 -PLEASE BOOK EARLY! Please don't wait until a week or two before your event to find quality entertainment. If you wait the entertainers you want may be already booked. 2 ~ Is the magician you're considering the right fit for your event? Magicians aren't interchangeable, there is a lot of difference from one act to the next. Call or email magicians you are interested in and see who you feel comfortable with. Ask all the questions you want. Magicians should be able to tell you about their show, the magic they do, what to expect and more. 3 -Why? Why is this performer a magician? Is this their full time career? What does this entertainer bring to add to your event and how do they solve your entertainment requirements? Every performance, every person I meet and perform for motivates me. You are what inspires and encourages me, what allows me to put all the heart, effort and dedication into every show. Meeting you, speaking with you in email, on the telephone and after performances drives me to create and share the most amazing magical experiences, to give you the best entertainment possible. That's where all the imagination springs from, wanting to create amazing experiences. Without you there is no magic and there is no show.
