Introduction

I have one 1 star review. Please ignore that. It was from a prospective client who asked me for a discount right off the bat. I told her that I generally don't give discounts. She repeatedly asked me for a discount. I told her to keep asking was very disrespectful. Because I didn't give her a discount, she got mad and left a poor review. I was extremely respectful during our conversation. Thank you for understanding. My work stands out because I am very good at what I do. I make great connections and lasting memories. From time to time, I get people coming up to me telling me about something I showed them years ago when performing magic. Those are great moments. To be remembered like that is such an honor. Doing street magic is a great way to hone your skills and be a testing ground for new tricks, as well as an immense amount of practice time. I am also a balloon twister. Creating something out of nothing is imaginative and fun. I love watching things take shape as I'm twisting the balloons. Another thing I do is officiate wedding ceremonies. When working with a couple, I take the time to ensure that the ceremony is exactly how they want it to go. Do you want to go with doing your own vows, traditional or non-traditional? I can help you figure it out if needed. I try to be very easy to work with. After all, who wants to work with a headache, right? My work ethic is very strong. If I were to hire someone to entertain at one of my events, I would expect certain things out of them. To be good at what they do, to be entertaining, and to be worth what I paid, just to name a few. I do my best to give you everything that I would expect and more. That is why my work stands out. There is a reason almost all of my reviews are 5 stars. What I love about my job is everything. You get to learn things that are not known to the general public when it comes to the art of magic. The reactions I get from people while performing are priceless. I love bringing back that sense of wonder to the audience. I do street magic in Northampton, MA. I love doing street magic for a few reasons. A couple of them are when someone comes up to me and mentions a trick I showed them years back, in full detail. Another great one is when someone told me, "My kids saw you last night. They made me buy some spongeballs, and they spent the night and today pretending they were you. " Doesn't get much better than that. Doing "tricks" is only part of being a magician. The greater part and the real magic are in connecting with people and making memories. Along the line of creating connections and making memories is officiating weddings. I am honored that people choose me to help make their special day even more special. I take that job very seriously.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Entertainers don't generally give discounts. I have set prices. I do have different prices set aside for certain events/venues. I will travel anywhere for a show. My price does go up after :45 minutes of travel. I am, however, very fair with my pricing. According to the internet, my pricing is about $50 or so under average. I could raise my prices to match the average. But I understand that people work hard for their money and bills keep coming in, so I try to be affordable.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Typically, we exchange phone numbers. I find out their exact needs. I ask for a deposit. Then we go forward accordingly.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
There are many books, DVDs and downloads for magic. There are also magic shops. If there isn't a local one, you can find them online. One thing a lot of people don't realize, learning magic can be expensive. The average cost of a magic DVD is $35. Magic props cost anywhere from $5 for small items up to thousands of dollars. Typically a good prop, for what I do, costs $50 to $250. And that cost is for 2 to 6 minutes worth of entertainment each.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I've been in love with magic my whole life. I believe it started when someone pulled a quarter out of my ear as a child. As a child, I would take out magic books from the library. I learned what I could from them. Then, as I became an adult, I got busy with life. Then at 34 I had the opportunity to chase my dream and become a magician.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I do all kinds of events. I've performed at festivals, a chili cook off, countless parties, corporate events, wedding receptions, celebrations, campgrounds, bars and more. At the moment I perform magic once a month at two bars. The Still bar and grill in Agawam MA and The Root Cellar in Greenfield MA.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I'm proud of all the jobs I do.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Always check reviews. Thumbtack does a great job with reviews. You see all of them, good and bad, unedited. Thumbtack doesn't give the provider an option to edit the reviews. They are posted and kept just as you put it. Do online searches about the provider, if you feel the need. This gives you further insight into their work. When spending money, you always want to make sure it's spent well.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Is the entertainer worth the money, or just over priced? Are they reliable? How are their reviews?
