Introduction

After working in the outdoor lighting installation industry for 4 years, I set out to launch a business to call my own, lighting up my neighbors year-round.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My pricing is project by project, but I tend to be cheap! I work alone which allows me to keep pricing down, and I get to have a handle on every project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I typically will chat over the phone, have them send me some pictures, provide a rough estimate, and if necessary, I'll come out and do a live demo of the lights they'll be purchasing.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have been to multiple lighting conferences/seminars and have worked in the industry since the age of 17. I live and breathe outdoor lighting!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started as a base-level installer for a holiday light company in Tampa. Now I get to light up my neighbors year-round.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with a pretty large variety, including those who want me to take full control and use my designer's eye on a project and those who already know what they have in mind.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I'm especially proud of a permanent LED installation on a veteran's house. He sent me a kind, thankful text on Memorial Day with a video of his lights on red, white, and blue and his kids looking at them in the front yard. It made my week!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Just make sure your lighting provider knows what they're talking about, and that they're using a high-quality product. Most outdoor lighting installers use lighting as a secondary source of income to an existing business (pressure washers, landscapers, etc). Be careful who you trust and make sure they have the electrical know-how and experience.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It's good to have a general idea or inspiration for a project, but if a potential client just wants someone with an eye for design to give them an opinion, I'm here for free!
