If the dj does not ask you what your preferences are there has been a mistake! Also, be mindful that a lot of music is streamed now, even on dj software so be clear on whether you have wifi near the event or if you have bad cell service as that might be a big factor with todays technology.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

communication is key. everything matters in this industry; weather, power location, wifi, food, attendee numbers, sound trajectory, etc. The more info you give up front the better.
