Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I am so grateful to be able to perform magic full time. It's such a blessing, but at the same time, because of my full-time status, my rates have to include taxes and fees. With that being said, my clients are guaranteed that they are working with a full-time professional. They know what to expect, and they can count on a great performance as well as a pleasant experience leading up to the event. I am quick to respond to emails and follow up numerous times to confirm that everything will go smoothly.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
With all my clients, I make it a point to be as clear and transparent as possible. Leading up to the event, I follow up numerous times via email or phone, whichever my clients prefer, to answer any questions and to make sure that everything is all set for the day of the event. I send my clients a contract to reserve their specific time, and this form can be returned via email or mail. I also require a deposit payment to reserve dates and times. On the day of the event, I send a text or email the moment I leave to head to the event so that my clients know that I am on the way. Transparency and constant communication are very important to my clients, and I make sure I keep them updated at all times.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've found that the best training as a magician comes from performing. The more I perform, the more comfortable I am. I performed 136 shows all throughout New England in 2017 and am excited for what 2018 has to offer.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up being voted the shyest student in my class from middle to high school. I saw David Blaine's TV show "Magic Man" and I began to look up magic tricks online after watching his show. Magic helped me break out of my shell when I was younger, and gave me confidence. Now all I want to do is travel and entertain people with this art that changed my life.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've performed shows for pretty much every type of event you can think of. From children's birthday parties to high-end corporate events held in the heart of Boston, I've been so grateful to have done shows for them all.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would recommend researching vendors to see if they are up to date with their magic. Many magicians perform the same old tricks, and it can get a little boring. I've performed hundreds of events for kids of all ages, and have worked as a youth leader of students in grades 4-9 for the past four years, and from my experience, kids no longer enjoy the same old tricks. They are learning how to do tricks on YouTube, and because of that, they have a more sophisticated taste of magic.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Many times my clients talk with me about budget, and I always recommend thinking through how much they want to spend. I definitely understand wanting to spend as little as possible, however, in regards to entertainment, paying a little more often goes a long way. Having a magician come to your house for a children's party is often a great way to save money and give the children a great experience - even if that means spending 300-400 on a performer! Many children's play areas charge around $500+ to rent out the space for a couple hours (not including food), and the space isn't always the cleanest environment for the young ones! Generally my clients pay a total of around $400 on a children's birthday party, and that would include all decorations, food, entertainment, and giving the children an experience that they will definitely remember as they grow older.
