Introduction

Ru Cru blends a horn section's funk sound with the energy of a rock concert to create groove arrangements of all your favorite songs. Whether you are hosting a happy hour, party, or even a wedding, this crew will get everyone out on the dance floor with their wide ranging repertoire that covers Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae, Allen Stone, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Blackstreet, and everything in-between. They also have the unique ability to mashup tunes - seamlessly moving from Camila Cabello to Santana and from MGMT to The Electric Slide. The energy is high, the horn section is dialed in, and the Ru Cru is ready to perform wherever you need them next.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We typically charge $700/hour starting at the beginning of our first set and finishing with the end of our last set. We can be flexible depending on your needs.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We can provide samples from our show and recordings of our music. We'd love to discuss the event via phone or in-person in order to ensure all of your questions are answered and that we will be well-prepared to put on the best show for you. If there's plenty of time in advance, we can learn a song that you want played live.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Our band members are vocal instructors, hold degrees in music, teach private lessons, perform in other bands, and are otherwise involved in music on a daily basis. We have all been performing since we were teenagers and love to be on stage.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
A love for music is instilled at a very early age. This group formed in college at UMBC through mutual connections and a desire to play in a band. We have been gigging at bars, restaurants, music festivals, private parties, and other events since 2012.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We regularly play at various bars and restaurants in the Washington, DC and Baltimore area. During the summer months, we work with local organizations that host festivals and are looking for bands that play our style of music.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Most gigs are 3 hours of playing time and we take two breaks. Leading up to the event, we will rehearse to refresh on any material we need to go over, learn new songs, or change any part of the arrangement / show in general.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Listen to the samples that groups will provide. Check out their upcoming concerts if you want to hear them live first. Make sure you are hiring a band that already plays the style of music you want.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How long would you like the band to perform? Is there a stage or just a space for the band to setup? Is this area outdoors or indoors? Is there access to power near where the band will be (at least 2 outlets, preferably on different circuits)? If you want a full band setup with a drum kit, is it okay to play at full volume? Will there be room for a dance floor near the stage? Are there any songs you want the band to perform? Will you want to make any announcements using the PA system? Is there a certain playlist of songs you would like played during breaks? Is this a family-friendly event? (some lyrics are not suitable for all ages) If you'd like to negotiate the rate, can you provide other perks - food, beverage, encourage tipping, etc?
