Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I'm willing to be reasonably flexible to meet your budget constraints. While the money is necessary to justify the time away from my family, I do this because I LOVE it!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I always prefer to start with a phone call. As the organizer of an event, I know it's important to you to ensure the performer you hire will be gracious with your guests. This phone call gives you that opportunity and also ensures that we can ask each other all the important logistical questions to ensure I'm the right fit. If we agree to move forward, I will follow up with an agreement in writing for your review so you can be confident we're on the same page before we lock anything in.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been playing and performing music since my parents got me a guitar in 2002. Technically my performances started even earlier if you count the rendition of "You're a Grand Old Flag" that I sang with my grandfather in a nursing home when I was four. I've never been one to shy away from a crowd! I didn't start pursuing professional performance opportunities until 2014, the year after I graduated from college. It started with open mics in southwestern Connecticut, where a few incredibly kind people vouched for my talent to local restaurants and bars. The gigs picked up in the area, eventually leading me to shows in NYC, and by 2016 I was brave enough to chase music stardom in Nashville. Admittedly, chasing music stardom was HARD and ultimately not for me. Trying to make it as an artist is 95% running a business and 5% playing music. What I love is to play and to see others lifted up as a result. By 2017 I had found a recurring solo acoustic performance slot in downtown Nashville (Hotel Indigo) and since then have been blessed with many opportunities to bring the gift of music to others. My personal favorites: 1) Getting selected to play acoustic guitar for a reality TV star trying emerge as an artist... And being on a TV show myself! 2) Getting selected to play at hospital bedsides for people enduring hardship and in need of music's joy (Musicians On Call).

What types of customers have you worked with?

The short answer: All kinds of customers/ events! Weddings, corporate events, private events, bars/ restaurants/ venues to name a few. Have also done plenty of volunteer work at churches as well as Musicians On Call, an organization that brings hospital patients the gift of live music.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure the performer you hire… 1) Will have the right energy level for your event. If you’re looking for headlining entertainment, someone who is accustomed to playing background music likely will not be ideal, and vice versa. Customer reviews and references should help you validate this. 2) Will arrive early to your event to do a sound check, before the crowd is around. You don’t want someone starting to play in front of your audience, then awkwardly pausing to make sound adjustments. 3) Is willing to learn at least two particular songs for your event without an extra charge. For a professional in the genre(s) you’re seeking, it shouldn’t be too heavy a lift to get this number of songs added. Besides, this benefits the performer as well as these songs will become part of their future repertoire!
