Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Pricing depends on instrument type (lever/celtic or pedal harp), event location, and performance type. Prices start at $250 for the first hour of lever harp. Harp lessons start at $30 for 30mins.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to setup an introductory phone call or video chat session to discuss the event. I'll then send in contract with a deposit amount. For those interested in lessons I offer a free trial lessons to see if we're a good fit.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have nearly two decades worth of private lessons, studying under a variety of harpists, including professors and full time performers. I have a degree in music from Westminster College SLC where I studied with Louise Vickerman, principal harpist at the Utah Symphony.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
At the age of 5 I started taking piano lessons. My piano teacher at the time was learning and would let me play on her instrument. Eventually I refused to play the piano and insisted on learning harp. The rest is history!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've performed for churches, weddings, funerals, and dinner parties. I've also done busking and custom recitals. I have extensive experience in chamber music so I'm available as an accompanist for singers, poets, etc. I also teach harp online to a number of students.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
In December 2021, I premiered the piece "As Foretold" with the Royal Gorge Philharmonic in Colorado Springs, CO.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure to look at their music education history. Harp is a very forgiving instrument as a beginning player and there are a lot of inexperience amateurs without formal training who attempt to pass themselves off as professionals. Those who work in therapeutic music often lack these credentials.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
There's a big difference in sound/volume depending on the type of harp so be sure to ask about harp size and if they provide amplification. Also ask to see a repertoire list and if they have a policy on music requests.
