What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
There are no hidden fees -- what you see quoted is what you get.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will initially speak with clients in person, by phone, or via FaceTime or Skype, to get details about their needs and desires for the ceremony. If a client does not have a ceremony style in mind, I will email them ideas to start forming the ceremony with them. I continue to refine the ceremony with the couple and help with vows (if needed) until we have exactly what clients want. I take care of the license (if the client needs), ensuring that the witnesses sign, making a copy, and then returning it to the clerk's office. I am available to clients via email, text, phone, or FaceTime, so that we can continue working together. This is their day and my goal is making sure that we fulfill their vision!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an ordained minister who specifically studied theology in college and graduate school. More specifically, I have performed countless numbers of weddings and ceremonies (both religious and non-religious), which is the best training one could ever receive! I have officiated all kinds of ceremonies -- religious, non-religious, non-denominational, LGBTQ, fandom, elopements, blessings, and more.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was raised in a family of ministers. I always loved watching my parents officiate weddings. They officiated not only religious ceremonies, but also non-religious, and I was always in awe of the love and happiness that people shared at weddings.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of clients. I have no preference to religion, sexual-orientation, or ceremony type. All ceremonies are special! I have also never had a client who was difficult (honestly). Usually, clients state that while the ceremony is the biggest and most important part of the day, it's also the easiest to coordinate!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Every ceremony is special! However, one that recently stands out is for a Las Vegas couple who had overcome so many obstacles in their relationship. Many couples would have given up, but they didn't, and their love was evident. We incorporated the groom's son in the wedding, declaring the bride's intent to adopt him. It only took about three weeks of coordinating to perfect the script -- we spoke via FaceTime three times (about 30 minutes each call), and we touched base via email and text during those three weeks, revising the ceremony and vows.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Don't be afraid of finding someone new if you don't feel comfortable with the person you have contracted. This is a very important day in your life, and you want to make sure that you are comfortable with the person who will be officiating. Make sure that they listen to your preferences and incorporate personal touches (stories, details) into the ceremony to personalize the ceremony.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
How will the marriage certificate be handled (will the officiant handle that or the couple)?
What is the backup plan in case the officiant is sick or has an emergency (that would be horrible, but it's necessary to have a plan in place)?
Be specific about attire to ensure they blend with your color scheme, style, etc.
