Introduction

When I was planning my wedding, I had a vision of a ceremony both personal and one which would hold lasting meaning to my fiance and me. After several meetings with ministers, I knew my vision was different. I wanted certain elements to be included, and some of the ministers I'd met with didn't quite get it. The strict Roman Catholic parents on my side and culturally Christian parents on his were the most significant challenges when factoring in my humanist values and my fiance's pagan path. I wanted a ceremony to reflect our beliefs, but also not insult our parents' values. It required an intricate balancing of elements when I set out to write my wedding ceremony. Planning for your wedding is stressful. But, I can tell you going thru this process was one of the most fulfilling things I'd done, and I want to help you. Your ceremony should reflect your vision. Love is a universal language deserving of celebration and laughter. Helping couples craft a ceremony with their vision is an honor and a joy each time. From our initial meeting to the filing of the license, I'm here for you. Feel free to contact me directly at 303_883_2020 or stephanie.latta ( at) gmail (dot) com and we'll discuss your need.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Standard prices depending on the amount of customization are between $300 and $350. I charge $50 for rehearsal and IRS rates for mileage distances more than 25 miles from my home.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to have an initial consultation [in person or video call] with the couple, and start discussing how we can make the day special!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I'm endorsed by the Humanist Society and have taken a number of the available courses, as well as attended the Society workshops dedicated to weddings and memorials. Talking to other Humanist Celebrants, and exchanging ideas opens up my ability to provide more variety to you.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When planning for my own wedding, it was hard to find an officiant who would honor my husband and my non-traditional religious values (him = none, me = still trying to figure it all out). I ended up working with a UU minister, but writing most of the ceremony so it would be meaningful to us. This was the catalyst to me becoming a celebrant and sharing what I love to do with more couples.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Many of my clients want a ceremony with no religious affiliation. They want a ceremony reflecting their love and values without a mention of a spiritual being or higher power. But, they also have extended family who would be insulted if there was no inclusiveness of other beliefs. As I know from personal experience, this is walking a tightrope. And so rewarding when you get to the other side, and everyone is happy with the results.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I recommending talking to a few people before making up your mind. This lets each party get a feel for each other and see how they may work successfully. Sometimes just a quote isn't enough - a low price or high price does not mean this person is right. This is your day and you deserve more than just a number on a piece of paper.
