Introduction

We are an officiant/photographer duo that will also work individually when the situation dictates. We provide a personal alternative to the standard, establishment wedding ceremony and wedding photography. We strive to be the embodiment of the phrase “A friend in need is a friend in deed.” This is our forte. As an officiant, I have information, basic scripts, and add-ons to make the process more definitive and less stressful. You look all the info over- pick/choose, add/delete make note of what you like, any questions you have and then we talk. Before you know it we have your script done. One less item to worry about. Also, I come early to the ceremony to make sure everything is in order and during the ceremony I unobtrusively choreograph everything everything so it all runs smoothly and as planned. You truly get what you pay for . As the photographer , Dee has creative ideas and props to make the photographic depiction of the total event truly memorable. The “Jumping the Broom” is a ceremony in which the the bride and groom signify their entrance into a new life and their creation of a new family by symbolically “sweeping away” their former single lives, former problems and concerns, and jumping over the broom to enter upon a new adventure as a married couple. At the conclusion of the ceremony, one of the attendants produces the broom, or a special person from the audience brings the broom and places it in the path of the wedding couple. They then jump over the broom on their way to the recessional. Couples celebrate this rich cultural heritage, irrespective of race, religion, and nationally. The most important thing is its significance; honoring and respect of your ancestors, their legacy, and your family heritage, the coming coming together of both families, and the commitment to each other as husband and wife. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Officiant/photographerPricing Our basic pricing is : Officiant: $200-275 Additional for meeting $50 Additional for rehearsal $75 A $75 non-refundable deposit is required upon hiring to hold the date. An hour from published ceremony start time is included in the fee. A $25 fee is assessed per half hour that the ceremony runs over that allotted hour. Photography fees: By hour- 1hr-$600, 2hrs-$700, 3hrs-$800, 4hrs-$900, 5hrs-$1000, 6hrs-$1100 7hrs-$1200, 8hrs-$1300 If we are both hired a discount is applied. $650-950 photographer’s fee when done in conjunction with Norm as wedding officiant for a full set of edited photos on a flash drive or for an additional $75 a full set of edited photos on a flash drive and 4x6 prints in a personal gift box. The photographer’s fee is based on venue, ceremony, your requirements, and time involved. This includes pre, during, and post ceremony activities. Fee is determined after initial discussion of your desires and wishes.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

It starts with a phone call to discuss the timing and location. If necessary, we meet in person to talk in person about the expectations for the day.I take pride in learning about who the participants really are so I can bring a personal feeling to their ceremony. With that in mind, I am genuinely interested in hearing their details- the story of how they met, the family dynamics, individual likes and dislikes,their hopes for the future and other insights that I will lean on to set the ceremony apart, to establish an intimacy for everyone involved. I am attentive to everyone's needs. I have basic scripts and add on for the couple to look over, pick/choose, add/delete and together we put together the couple’s personal ceremony .

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

While I have no professional education as an officiant, my previous work gave me the background qualifications and impetus to follow this path. I am retired from CBS Network News and was always in front of diverse groups of individuals....giving talks, lectures and general customer relations. I know how to get the best out of people, how to treat them and make them feel at home. My wife is a retired educator with a degree in visual arts and we have been a dynamic duo since we both retired.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I actually started thinking about wedding officiant seriously about 2 years ago. I was at a nondenominational service of the daughter of a close friend of mine. My friend actually told me that, knowing me so well, my temperament, my ease with people and their ease with me, since I was retired this would be a perfect fit for me. He would have loved for me to officiate his daughter's wedding. Even though I was looking for something with value to do, to continue working in some way, I had never even thought of wedding officiant . I checked into it, did my due diligence and became an interfaith minister. It was a great choice. I now feel like I am "giving back" for all the blessings I have had.

What types of customers have you worked with?

All types-faith based, spiritual based but non-religous, and some others not faith-based at all. Every ceremony is different.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure the person is genuinely hearing what you have to say. Observe the officiant's word choice and demeanor. It is important for establishing a rapport with you and your guests. And ask yourself how attentive is the officiant to your needs. If you are nervous, will the officiant calm you before you walk down the aisle? Is the officiant sensitive to the delicate relationship you have with your stepmother or your in-laws?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Each ceremony is unique and personal. Get your thoughts and questions down on paper concerning the timing, location and your expectations for the day. The officiant should be able to answer all your questions so that you leave that discussion basically knowing the order of events and the general direction, flow and mood the officiant will take and that it is in line with your wishes.
