Introduction

A few years ago, my niece asked me if I would marry her. I was humbled and excited to do this for her. It was the beginning of a blessed journey that I now fully embrace as a sacred service I am offering to the world. "I put a special accent on weddings." (Talk to me to find out what this really means!) The act of marriage is sacred and blessed by God and creator, and as such deserves thorough reflection and preparation. My offer is based on 100% transparency and agreement with each couple and includes 4 one-on-one sessions with the couple, three of which are optional marriage reflection sessions (coaching). I seek agreement with the couple first and foremost before we engage in this journey together. While I personally hold a Christian life view, I am not bound to any religious denomination and will accommodate other spiritual, non-spiritual, and love-based lifestyle choices.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
You are making an investment in one of your most important life events - your wedding that kick-starts your marriage. As your officiant, I offer an all-inclusive price. What I offer goes way beyond the 20 or 30 minutes of officiating the ceremony. It includes Marriage Reflections (a series of sessions for marriage preparation), a fully customized ceremony allowing your full input, and much more (check out my website for more details). While there is a $ value on the time we spend together to create your ideal wedding celebration, things are negotiable. To me, your wedding is not just a business transaction, and your marriage should not just be a contract on paper. Let's connect and find out if we are compatible.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Most importantly, at the initial contact, we will set a time to talk to start to know each other and find out what the expectations are. I call it the "Chemistry Check". For local couples, I desire to meet face-to-face if at all possible, but online or phone meetings are absolutely possible. The Greater Savannah area is in great demand as a wedding destination for couples from all over the world, so our conversations can be held online via Skype, Zoom, Duo, Facebook Messenger or any other platform available. Once we are in agreement, we schedule out our meeting times all the way to your wedding day. My couples have 100% access to me via call, text or email.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I tell my friends and family that I have a degree, and it is not a BS, BA or MBA, but an MLE - "Masters in Life Experience" :) I have been married for over 30 years with my wife Beth; I have a deep calling to study and meditate on matters of divinity (thus my business name Divine Marriage Union); I am an advanced public speaker with Toastmasters International; I am a member of the International Association of Professional Wedding Officiants; and I hold a training certificate of the Unboring Wedding Academy.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
A few years ago (2016), my niece asked me if I would marry her. I was humbled and excited to do this for her. It was the beginning of a blessed journey that I now fully embrace as a sacred service I am offering to the world.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a great variety of couples from various backgrounds: young couples in their twenties fresh out of college, and couples that are embarking on their second marriage. In all cases, I do love the opportunity to engage with them an explore their future together through my Marriage Reflections sessions.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Savannah is a hot destination for weddings, and there are many options for you to choose venues and an officiant. First, I recommend to make the choice of your officiant at the very beginning of your planning as spring, summer and fall can fill up very quickly. Second, I encourage you to carefully look at the offer that is included in the price. My pricing is not at the lower end, but look at the value it offers overall and compare it to the relatively much higher costs of all other components of your wedding.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I found that couples tend to feel pressured sometimes by expectations by their families as it relates to their wedding day. I ask them to pause and think about what this celebration is really about. I ask them what is it really that you want and that has meaning to you two about this day. I then offer to walk with them and help negotiate through those challenges.
