How did you get started doing this type of work?
My journey as a wedding officiant began with a deep passion for love stories and a desire to help couples create meaningful, stress-free ceremonies. After attending a few weddings as a guest, I realized how important the officiant’s role is in setting the tone and making the day truly memorable.
I started by seeking out official training to become a certified wedding officiant, learning everything from the legal requirements to the nuances of crafting personalized vows. I was fortunate to officiate my first wedding soon after completing my training, and the joy of witnessing two people’s love celebrated in such an intimate way inspired me to pursue this work full-time.
Since then, I’ve officiated over 200 weddings, gaining a wide range of experience with different styles, cultures, and ceremony types—everything from small, private elopements to large, elaborate weddings. Each ceremony is unique, and I take great pride in being part of such an important day in a couple’s life.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of couples, each with their own unique vision for their wedding day. My experience spans many different types of ceremonies, including:
Couples Planning Intimate Elopements:
Many couples choose to elope for a more personal and private ceremony, and I love helping them create a meaningful experience with just the two of them or a small group of loved ones.
Couples with Traditional and Custom Weddings:
I work with couples who want to incorporate specific traditions, whether religious, cultural, or family-based, or those who prefer a completely unique and personalized ceremony that reflects their values and love story.
Destination Weddings:
I’ve officiated weddings for couples traveling from near and far to tie the knot in beautiful Rochester or at remote locations. I’m experienced in working with couples from different regions and countries, ensuring a smooth ceremony even for destination weddings.
Couples Looking for a Stress-Free and Simple Ceremony:
Some couples want a no-fuss, easy-going ceremony with minimal stress. I specialize in creating simple yet memorable ceremonies that focus on what truly matters: the couple’s commitment to each other.
LGBTQ+ Couples:
I’m proud to have officiated weddings for same-sex couples and believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all couples, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.
Couples with Special Requests or Unique Ceremonial Elements:
Whether it's a personalized vow exchange, a handfasting ritual, or blending of cultures, I’m experienced in customizing ceremonies to incorporate special elements that are meaningful to the couple.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently, I officiated a couples 2nd marriage who wanted to included their young children. We surprised the kids asking them to step forward and I read a very short vow to them with their response “I Will”. The children felt included and special on their parents special day.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for a Personal Connection: Choose someone who takes the time to understand your story, values, and vision for the ceremony. A great officiant will make your event feel personal and meaningful.
Check for Inclusivity and Flexibility: Whether it’s incorporating children, special traditions, or nontraditional elements, a skilled officiant should be adaptable to your needs and inclusive of all participants.
Review Their Style and Experience: Ask about their approach to ceremonies and if they’ve worked in situations similar to yours. For example, someone experienced in second marriages or blending families might have unique insights.
Assess Communication Skills: A good officiant will be clear, confident, and engaging during the ceremony. They should also be responsive and supportive throughout the planning process.
Look at Feedback and Referrals: Check reviews or ask for recommendations. Personal stories from previous clients can reveal how an officiant makes events memorable.
Ask About Their Process: Find out how they structure ceremonies, write vows, or incorporate special moments. The best officiants will have a collaborative approach.
