Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Everything is included to make your ceremony terrific and professional. My price includes all preparations; conveying the requirements of the County for the marriage license; providing you examples of beautiful readings, vows, or add-ons (such as a Sand Ceremony); running the rehearsal (if you need one) or an upfront call to work out the ceremony; and sending the marriage license into the County Clerk via Certified Mail. All travel expenses are included if within 90 minutes from Chapel Hill, NC.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I will reach out to the new customer first, send a detailed questionnaire, and set up a 30 minute conversation which is a "getting to know you" call, and to answer the questions so they get the wedding of their dreams, and I will also go over how to get the marriage license. After our initial telephone consultation, I send examples of vows and readings, send any other information required, and a contract. Also, if you do not have a rehearsal (many couples don't), I organize a final telephone consultation 2 - 3 days before your wedding, so you can relax and concentrate on getting married, and not worry about loads of last minute decisions!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am a Licensed Wedding Officiant with Christian Leaders Alliance since May 2024, following Ordination with ULC since December 2018, and presently working towards full Minster status with Christian Leaders. I have heavy experience in public speaking, community theatre, and in preparing and delivering training seminars and classes. I have also acted as a Lay Minister and Lector at Churches in South Carolina, New Zealand, and Louisiana.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was told several times years ago that I should be a Minister or sermon conductor due to my ease of organizing events, public speaking, singing, and acting. I reached out to the ULC in 2018 and completed the requirements and am a Minister in good standing with the ULC. I officiated my nephew's wedding, found I enjoyed it and got excellent reviews and feedback, and decided to progress to make it "Weddings By Jeff Lowe". Due to different requirements in NC I completed necessary training / requirements with Christian Leaders and can proudly solemnize weddings in NC.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have now officiated over 140 weddings across North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Florida, and Arkansas, with many more booked in 2025. Most are first-time marriages, slightly more than 10% are same-sex couples, range in age from 19 to 75, and go from major ceremonies to small, casual events. Most of the time I deal with the couples directly but on occasion I also work with a wedding coordinator. One was a fully bilingual (English - French) ceremony and have also delivered an English-Spanish ceremony. Marriages range from fully Christian ceremonies to non-denominational ones.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We had a conversation upfront (about 30 minutes) to go over wedding logistics. I prepared a full, custom script and combined with additional touches. The rehearsal was about 45 minutes and the ceremony another 30 minutes. It was a beautiful, professional ceremony and received compliments from the location that it was the best ceremony they had ever witnessed.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for someone who will ask questions and go over the logistics in detail. You don't want someone who "wings it" and leaves things to chance. Also, look for someone professional; there are a number of people who will be willing to provide this service but you want the day to be special and memorable.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Questions should include what the Professional will do (i.e., what questions and what preparation) before the ceremony if they win the work. Also, ask if the Professional is at ease with what will be done or envisioned, and their experience and desire at speaking in front of crowds, and if he / she is comfortable with your situation (e.g., if it will be a same-sex marriage, for example).
