Introduction

I believe weddings are a statement not only of love and commitment, but also a reflection of the personality of the couple. Each ceremony should be unique to the relationship. I love meeting people and hearing their stories. How they met, what hopes and dreams they have, etc. I would love the chance to chat with you and see what we can create for your special day. I have sample ceremonies that I can share as a starting point for you. I began doing weddings for friends who were looking for non-traditional ceremonies. I am comfortable with all types of relationships and ceremonies both religious and secular, and will work hard to make sure we create a ceremony that reflects your unique love and commitment. If possible, I prefer to meet once face to face just so we get to know each other, but then we can do most of the work by email, text and phone. I know weddings are expensive so I am willing to negotiate on the quote sent if needed. Payment for services is expected at the ceremony. I hope we have the opportunity to work together. Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I normally charge between $200-$350 for a ceremony depending on the amount of work needed to design it and how far I have to travel. All quotes are negotiable.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to meet in person at least once to discuss expectations of the ceremony and answer any questions. After that, most of the design can happen by email and phone. Payment is expected the day of the ceremony.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Master of Divinity from Brite Divinity school at TCU in Fort Worth, TX. I was ordained in the Metropolitan Community Churches in 2005 and have been active in ministry in both Parish and Chaplaincy roles.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

My friends helped me get started! I have a number of friends who are not very religious or practice a non-Christian faith and they needed an officiant who would honor their traditions and desires without offending their Christian families. Others who attended those ceremonies were impressed by my work and would refer me to their friends.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with people from all walks of life. As a chaplain, I honor all pathways, including religious and non-religious, and I strive to create the ceremony and atmosphere that the customer wants.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

In 2015, I was part of a marriage equality event. I was honored to officiate the wedding of an interracial, lesbian couple in their late 70's who had been together longer than I had been alive! It was so beautiful to be part of such a sacred moment that had been dreamed of for nearly 50 years! Definitely a perk in my job!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure they are willing to do the service that fits you. Ask questions and don't be afraid to say if you want certain things or DON'T want things. Many wedding officiants work within a certain religious framework. If that is what you want, great! But if you want a secular ceremony you should trust your officiant to provide that.
