Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Customers should know that my pricing is all-inclusive. The quote that you receive covers all meetings, planning, rehearsals, etc. On rare occasions, we may ask that the amount be slightly increased depending upon necessary travel.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our typical process for working with new customers is fairly straightforward. If we all agree that this is a good fit then the customer is asked to pay half of the cost via Venmo or Zelle. We'll then immediately begin the planning process via Google Docs. We also are open to meeting in person at a local coffee shop or via Skype either before the deposit is made or shortly after depending upon the comfort level of the customer. We want to make sure that you are confident that we are the right officiant(s) for your special day.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We have three Masters Degrees between the two of us and are both licensed and ordained with a trusted and respected Christian denomination. We officiate several weddings and funerals each year. Justin currently teaches middle school Social Studies teacher on a full-time basis while we both serve as co-campus pastors at a local church called Venture Spokane.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
We started officiating weddings and funerals when we became pastors in the early 2000s. Doing so allows us to meet new people in the community, serve them by using our expertise and training, and better support our family in the process.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with all types of customers. We are comfortable meeting people where they are at on their faith journey. Some of our weddings are very religious in nature and others are scaled back. There'll be no surprises on what I say or how we say it. Using Google Docs and as many meetings necessary, we'll ensure that we design a wedding that is honoring to Jesus but also true to who you are as a couple. All that we ask is that you are ready and willing to make a life-long commitment to each other. We are truly honored to have the opportunity to walk you through the process.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
All of the weddings that we’ve been a part of over the years have been special and unique in their own ways. One of our favorite parts of the process is to hear how couples have met and when (and how) they knew that this was the person they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with. Another aspect of weddings we enjoy immensely is when couples choose to write their own vows to each other. This is a not a requirement (we gladly provide numerous options for wedding vows). However, hearing someone individually express their love and commitment to someone else is always a joyous occasion.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Our advice to a customer looking to hire an officiant is quite simple. First of all, don't choose solely on price. Nearly anyone can be licensed or ordained but not all licenses or ordination papers are created equal. Make sure that the person you choose has a pastor's heart. We are not saying that you have to choose a pastor but the person that you choose should have a passion, gifting, and experience in care and communication. Your officiant should be full of grace and excellence. Also, don't shy away from someone with a religious background just because you may not have one yourself. We are committed to meeting people right where they are at. Our heart is to create a wedding that you are proud of and all those in attendance can understand and enjoy.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
A few questions that customers might consider asking as they interview prospective officiants might be... 1) Why do you officiate weddings? 2) When did a wedding not go as planned and how did you respond? 3) How might we personalize our wedding? We are honored to be considered as your officiant(s) and look forward to hearing from you soon. This will be an amazing day - the first day of what will be an exciting journey together for you as a couple.
