Introduction

Growing up, my step father worked on a lot of DIY projects, which gave me the excitement and courage to do things myself. When we bought our 1st house, I remodeled the kitchen, bathroom, rec room, and built a deck. Then, I finished the basement in our 2nd home. Overall experience includes plumbing (install vanities, faucets, toilets, and fix leaks), electric (install ceiling fans, light fixtures, outlets, switches, bathroom fans, smoke alarms, garage door openers, range hoods, etc.), flooring (laminate, vinyl, and tile), installing trim/cabinets, hanging pictures/tv's/barn doors, I assembled a Murphy bed, tiled multiple back splashes, etc. I've built 11 custom garden boxes, done landscaping, and recently added on/expanded the island in our kitchen. Also have 3 years of residential window washing experience. I take pride in the work I do and focus on quality. I've learned a good amount in 20+ years and will be honest about what I can and cannot do.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Because I'm building a reputation as a handyman through Thumbtack, my rate will be more reasonable than others.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to talk through specifics, to make sure I understand what you want done. Given my experience, I'll talk through previous projects I've worked on, to compare or talk about what I learned. I do this to help you understand if it's feasible and to potentially explore a more efficient, higher quality, or cost effective solution. If it's a project which will take longer than a few hours, we'll talk through the details, to ensure the timeline works for you.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've learned a lot over the years, mainly from hands on experience, as well as my step father, Uncle, other handy friends, and the internet.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got started after we bought our first house. I've continued to do things myself because I often get estimates which are way too high.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Friend's, family, former co-workers, and residential customers in the Denver area.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We moved into a new house a year and a half ago. My wife asked if I could expand our kitchen island, but I was leery about matching a new slab of granite with the exiting one. She was able to find out where the previous owners purchased the granite and confirmed they had the size we needed. After thinking through the design, I was able to build it in about 4-8 hours. Took a few days overall because I sanded and painted the legs, to match the color of our existing cabinets. As a result, the whole family is very happy with the finished product.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be as detailed as possible when describing what you want done and include measurements. This way people like me have a decent understanding as to whether or not it's a project they can do.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Do you want to bandaid an issue or fix it the right way? I'm a big fan of doing things the right way, therefore they last longer.
