Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
As a homeowner, we know budgeting is important. We offer a complete down-to-the-penny project price which includes everything from removal and disposal of the existing floor, furniture moving, material, installation, and any needed trim work, with no change orders. Once we give you a price, it stays that way unless there is something unforeseen once we remove your existing flooring. We don't have any price gimmicks or "one week only sales". There are no "buy 2 rooms get 1 free" type of stuff. We offer the best products direct from national manufacturers, using qualified installers, at an everyday value.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We book a free in-home consultation for you with a Design Associate. You will receive a call beforehand so the Design Associate can introduce themselves and learn more about your project. On the day of your appointment, the Design Associate will arrive on time in our Mobile Flooring Showroom. They will talk with you further about the project, measure your floors, and bring in samples to look at under your lighting and with your decor, help you choose the perfect solution and provide a down-to-the-penny proposal for your flooring project. After reviewing the proposal, you can talk about payment options and make your final decision. We ask for 50% down to get the project started (this can be less if using financing), then order the material and get your installation scheduled once it arrives at our warehouse. We treat your home as if it was our own, removal and replacement of furniture is included, as is clean up of the flooring area after installation. We will keep you informed on the estimated time of arrival for the material and expected installation dates.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Everyone in the Floor Coverings International family receives hundreds of hours of computer-based and hands-on training, and on-going training occurs throughout the year. We meet often with our reps from each manufacturer to learn the latest styles, installation techniques and tips to get the most longevity and performance out of each product we carry. Every installer is scrutinized for insurance, certifications, references, years of experience, and overall talent. We aren't looking for a bargain when it comes to installers, we are looking for the best available at a good value.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
We researched many companies, and Floor Coverings International had the best technology & support system available. We also love the opportunity to work in our community and get to meet so many amazing people.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We work with a wide range of customers, from those looking to replace flooring in a guest bathroom, all the way to 6,500 Sq Ft. new construction. We specialize in flooring exclusively, so if it's designed to be walked on, we will likely be able to do it for you.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently worked with a family relocating to the area from Texas. We met their realtor at the house when under contract to measure the entire space. The customer sent us a “look book” of ideas to show the color & scheme they envisioned. Through FaceTime calls, we showed samples of LVP and carpet which aligned with their vision. We then had samples of a few choices sent to them in Texas, so they could see & feel them. Once they selected what was best for them, we sent a detailed proposal for the project. After they sent a deposit, we ordered the materials and scheduled an installation date one day after closing. About a week later, we finally met the customer in real life when they moved into their new home! We also made recommendations for painters and house cleaners to help in the transition to living in a new area.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Get someone who makes you feel comfortable. If they don't act professionally when you call them, or when they are in your home, they aren't likely going to be professional when they manage your installation or aftercare. The person you hire should be knowledgeable in the flooring industry and the materials involved. They should be able to educate you on the correct material for the job, and how different materials will wear with your lifestyle. The lowest bidder is rarely the person that is going to provide the quality you are looking for. 80% of complaints to the BBB against home improvement contractors are comprised of customers who use the lowest bidder. Everyone is in business to make money, so the "one week only sale" and the "buy 2 rooms get 1 free" stuff is merely a gimmick. When you compare actual apples to apples, the price variance from one company to the next is not that much. Use the company you think will do the BEST job... this is an investment in your family's home.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the look and feel you are trying to accomplish? Are you focused more on achieving a certain look, or on achieving a certain level of performance/durability? Prioritize the projects in your home. The things that will increase your home’s value are flooring, kitchen, and bathrooms. Painting and flooring are the 2 most cost-effective cosmetic ways to update the home.
