Introduction

Attorney Brian Whitaker is one of the few A+-rated (BBB) bankruptcy attorneys in San Diego and Imperial Counties. He has consistently been among the top ten filers of bankruptcies in the Southern District of California for more than 20 years ... so efficiency and value are hallmarks of our service and everything will be explained to you so that you can easily understand your options and how we propose to solve your financial problems. My favorite moments are when clients walk out of my office for the first time feeling like a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Prices vary, of course; but we always start with a base fee under $1,000. Increments may be added if you are married, self-employed, a homeowner, or high-income or subtracted if you are low-income and/or have minimal dischargeable debt.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Ordinarily, but not always, a prospective client will come in to the office for a free 20 - 30 minute appointment. I do not require any paperwork for the first meeting because if you decide to proceed, I will pull your credit report and download all that info into our computer. You would then return home with our Worksheet Package to fill out and return at your convenience.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Continuing Legal Education is mandatory.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
When I passed the Bar in 1996, I purchased a paralegal service called Family Law Assistance which took in, but farmed out, bankruptcies. Since I was a licensed attorney, I saw no reason why I couldn't handle those cases personally - and the rest is history.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Male, Female, Young, Old, Married, Single, Rich, Poor, Liberal, Conservative, Homeowners, Renters, ...

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
The average Chapter 7 bankruptcy takes 3-4 months and I am always fond of my last one because my client received a discharged of all dischargeable debts and got a fresh start.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would advise him/her to hire me immediately before the fees skyrocket.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
The nature, location and value of their assets ... Their average gross income over the preceding six months ... The types and approximate amounts of their debts (the actual numbers are not that important) ...
