Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
No. All jobs are unique but as a rule of thumb, here in Atlanta a price point of $20 / sq.ft should be expected. Specialty work such as arched windows and cutouts for door handles are additional.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We typically respond to the customer request for a consultation and set an appointment at the home. We bring samples, plenty of photos and consult with the homeowner to determine how they want the product to work for them. Detailed measurements are taken, specific to the customer request, and the order is submitted to the factory in Cumming, Ga. Within about four weeks the shutters are ready. We then schedule the installation and provide a first class installation that will endure for years.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I attended the school of hard knocks in Shutterville USA. I have probably seen any application imaginable as it relates to plantation shutters. I have trained hundreds of individuals in various aspects of the shutter business.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started out in the business as a sales rep for a local manufacturer and eventually started my own manufacturing company which I operated for 21 years. I have learned and lived all aspects of the shutter business for the last 28 years.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Over the years we have worked with homeowners, interior designers, builders and developers.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We recently installed a job for a previous customer who knew we could handle her unique request. The rear wall in her Master bedroom consisted of 2 windows and a pair of french doors. She wanted floor to ceiling shutters installed on a track system. These were 9' tall panels that slide back and forth. Very intricate measurements. Not a job for your run of the mill shutter company!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for a product that is manufactured locally and specific to their needs. A hardwood shutter offers many more ways to accomplish a true custom look and feel.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
A potential customer should first decide if they are looking for a quality product that will provide trouble free service or simply the most economical choice at the time.
