Introduction

My name is Troy and I train dogs. I never take shortcuts or cut corners using treats or food as for positive reinforcement. Food excites the canine mind and treat based training will teach your dog to not respect you unless you have food. I use praise, games, play, and toys as forms of positive reinforcement and train your dog to form a bond with its owner that's based on trust not treats. I spent over a decade working with and around animals at a zoo rescue and apprenticed privately under a master dog trainer. I have trained and handled exotic animals, reptiles, livestock, and yes, you guessed it, DOGS! I use a scientific approach to help your dog function in a human world by conditioning in all basic obedience commands using a method called operant conditioning. When your dog leaves my board and train program it will be able to perform all the skills of a fully trained and respectful dog citizen. I specialize in board & train offerings and train service dogs, physical assist dogs, hunting dogs, puppies, or simply basic obedience. I am available to all clients in the Southern California area and greater Los Angeles county.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I do 30/60/90 day board and train programs. All board and train comes with private follow up lessons for the lifetime of the dog. 60 days is recommended for all puppies.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First we must establish what the dogs age is and what the dogs needs are. Once this is established we can discuss whether the owner is interested in the services available.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I was raised training dogs and have worked as an apprentice with a master dog trainer before I went out on my own. We still do weekly meetings to always keep learning.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have worked with animals since I was young. Spent lots of time working with dogs, cats, horses etc. Then worked for a zoo rescue training and handling everything from exotic animals to snakes, reptiles, dogs, horses, pigs. Now I’m back to my roots of training service dogs and hunting dogs. My own dog inspired me to return to dog training and has been such a wonderful influence in helping me grow my business.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with all types of customers meaning all types of owners and all types of dogs. All dogs can learn the same things and will live a better life after a proper board and train. Most of my customers appreciate that I will tell you the truth, not just tell you what you want to hear.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I rescued a high content wolfdog. When I say rescued I mean I found him in the middle of a highway and stopped traffic and saved him. Now he is my best friend. He was and is possibly the best dog I’ve ever worked with and the hardest dog to train due to his high wolf content. Dna tests said 25% European grey wolf. Training him and making videos with him has been amazing and continues to be amazing.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Stay away from the purely positive food based trainers. Food will excite your dog and make training less effective and will lead to a weaker bond between you and your pet.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How old is my dog? What issues are present? What type of dog do I want as an owner? Do I have a realistic outlook on the cost of training a dog?
