Introduction

At Better Obedience K9 Training, we treat every dog like our own. During the board and train programs, each dog stays in the home with us, gets walks and adventures and those that can socialize with dogs, are able to run and play daily. We make sure every owner gets their fill of updates on their dogs during this time and we document the process with videos and photos. Our private training packages are also customized based off the individual dog’s needs. We can do in home session, or meet elsewhere, or the owner can travel to the train. Each lesson is 1 hour long and we start progressing toward your goals on lesson one. Contact us through email, phone, or our website contact form. We have openings and new programs. We also offer boarding without training.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
5% discount to military/Leo clients and seniors

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Firstly we will discuss what issues and goals your have for your dog, then we can either set up a phone consult or set up a pick up/drop off date and evaluation prior to your pup staying here. I am available via text, call, email, or social media.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I graduated from animal behavior college in 2014, worked as a Vet Tech for 8 years while training on the side for clients and my personal dogs. I am a sport dog handler and trial my own dog in PSA. I am now a full time trainer with my own business after working under different trainers for the past 3 years. I attend about 3 working seminars a year to stay up to date with training skills and tools.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Working in Veterinary medicine and struggling to make visits positive for the fearful or aggressive patients was not only frustrating for them but for me as well. We had a certain amount of time to do our job and that meant no time to help pets relax. I started to do small reward based behavioral training with drop off patients to help them walk better on the leash and come out of the kennel easier, I also assisted in owner surrender training and rescue training.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I am open to any and all. If I cannot help, I will not waste anyones time and give some awesome recommendations for another trainer.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I have a history of working many fear aggressive cases with my previous company. I personally will always remember the dog that had to be sedated and muzzled on her first lesson and by the second lesson, we could take her muzzle off, by the 5th lesson she was finally able to walk on a leash without full blown panic or attempt to bite strangers. She ended her training sessions being able to have her muzzle off and learning to not react at the fence.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look for honestly not marketing abilities. There are some good salesmen out there and not all dog trainers know how to put themselves out there. If You can find a trainer that is willing to let you decide what you’re comfortable with, see the environment your dog stays in, and give you frequent updates even if you don’t ask, that would be the best option.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Consider how dedicated you are prepared to be to the process. Your pup may not always end training looking like a professionally trained level 3 sport dog, have realistic expectations for your dog and the current situation. If you have a dog that wants to eat dogs, you may not ever be able to take that dog to an off leash dog park or acquire a new puppy.
