Introduction

I've been a Certified Personal Trainer since 1999. Over the years I've worked with many different people with varied goals from looking wonderful on a special occasion, getting strong enough to stay independent and at home, wanting to be able to do one full pull-up, to strengthening their back muscles to relieve pain. Every person I work with has their own priorities and I like helping them achieve their goals. It isn't always easy to make time for exercise, but it is worth the effort. I encourage my clients to exercise safely and wisely depending on their level of function and ability. I meet people where they are on any given day, we begin our session and accomplish as much as we can. Everything we do is another step towards achieving your goal. I provide skilled personal training instruction tailored to your goals, you receive measurable results. Session times vary depending on your needs, goals, current level of fitness and if you exercise in my private studio or at your location.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Rates vary depending on the length of session and the package size, but average $100-$150.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, we speak on the phone or over zoom to discuss short and long term goals, any possible contraindications/concerns for exercise as well as past and present medical history. I'll explain what to expect from the first session if we decide to start working together.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
20+ years as a certified (International Therapy Education Council) gym instructor and personal trainer. Physical Therapy Assistant student moving into 3rd level with expected graduation December 2023

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My first focus was reflexology, which led to holistic health therapy and personal training, graduating in 2000. Initially I worked mainly as a holistic health therapist but learned along the way that maintaining strength, endurance and flexibility was fundamental to overall health and well being. Now my focus is on strength training and functional movement.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've worked with many types of clients over the years, from people who have the ability to push hard in exercise to people who have severe health issues or recovering from surgery. I've been very lucky to have experienced working with clients from all paths of life, some for several years, some for a few weeks or months depending on their needs and goals.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
It isn't so recent but it's one of my favorites, a client of mine decided she wanted to do one full chin up. Although she is strong she hadn't been able to do one. We set to work with partials, eccentrics, assisted reps and built our way up. It took about eight weeks, and we celebrated the mini milestones along the way. The smile on her face the day she did her first unassisted rep was beautiful. Then her goal moved to 5 reps.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Ask questions about experience and education, but also get a feel for the trainer and what they can offer you. Ask what research they are willing to do to meet your specific needs. If you feel comfortable talking to them and raising concerns then that's a positive sign. If you have a specific concern/issue be candid.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Consider everything from the amount of time you have for exercise, to the time of day you can exercise. Think about specific goals, whether it's being able to walk comfortably for 10 minutes or squat with heavy weights. Are you looking for sports specific exercises? Do you need a trainer to go to your home/office? If so, do you have the equipment needed? Are you looking to go to a gym near home or work? What is your budget? Will you be able to be consistent in order to reach your goals? What is the timeframe you have in mind? Is the timeframe realistic? These are some of the things you may want to consider before talking to a professional.
