Introduction

My ability to instantly connect with people makes my work stand out from the crowd. Technically my work is consistant, which is important to clients. You need to know that a photographer is going to be able to do the job. More importantly, my subjects are instantly at ease because they trust me because of my personality, my professionalism and my experience. What clients am I looking for? Portrait clients - My portrait clients include both individuals and businesses. Portraits can be taken in-studio here in Dilworth at my studio or on-location at a location that works best for the client and the shoot's needs. I do portraits for social media, websites, gifts, home decor use. Those genres include business, individuals, couples, families, maternity, boudoir, senior portraits, graduation and model portfolios. Event clients - I mostly work with corporations and businesses for events. Sorry I don't offer wedding photography. There are tons of great wedding photographers out there. I just don't have the time to commit to it. Photography is so diverse. Each day brings new clients with new challenges, but also new opportunities to meet people and learn about what they do. And create imagery that reflects who they are. The majority of people I meet and work with express some sort of doubt about "being photogenic". And the opportunity to prove them wrong is a challenge I gladly accept.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Although I have prices for sessions, each photography job and clients needs are different, so if you have something unique or special don't hesitate to ask. I can customize a session to fit your need and because of that, actual session prices may be less expensive or more expensive. Also session times may vary. Additional items like speciality backdrops that may have to ordered or specific locations for your shoot may require advanced booking. Those items may require additional fees but those will be fully disclosed prior to the shoot.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I try and get to know what exactly my client is looking for and also use the wealth of experience I have to give them ideas to help them feel confident I am the right photographer for the shoot.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Besides having my Associates and Bachelor's Degrees in Photography, continuing education is constant and very important, in any career, but especially photography. Each year digital technology changes the way we do business. It's both a blessing and a frustration.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been involved in photography since working for my high school newspaper and yearbook staff. After getting two college degrees and working in the industry for my entire career, I guess you could say being a photographer is all I have ever wanted to be and it's really all I have ever done.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Our most common shoots are individual portraits. People need professional pictures for things like their business, to use on their social media websites like Facebook and Linked-In. I love clients that say "I'm not photogenic" or "I don't take good pictures."

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I was awarded the Sponsor of the Year for the Miss North Carolina Pageant. I have been involved with the Miss North Carolina Pageant for many years as both a portrait photographer and the official event photographer of the pageant. My day-to-day operations here in the studio are all over the map. That's one of the things that makes photography fun and challenging at the same time. Some days its a client that just needs a simple business headshots, other days its a more complex shoot with multiple shot requests, on-location, oh and the weather is bad.... make it work.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look at their work. Is it consistent? Does it fit your style and the look that you want for your session? So many people make the mistake these days of shopping on price. There are always going to be people who are cheaper in any business. In photography, we have hobbyist that will do stuff practically if not for free. However, do they do what you need and do they do as professional of a look as you need? Probably not. That why people have been coming to me for decades.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the end result you need? Even simple headshot clients used to come to us and need 10-20 5x7 prints to send off to be used for press release. Now a lot of clients simply need a single digital file to accomplish the same need. Modeling agencies wanted a portfolio of 8x10s or 8x12s, but now only need a USB with the images on it. Families only wanted flat prints to frame in their home, whereas today the more popular products are canvas wraps that can be hung right away without the cost of framing which was often times way more expensive than the prints were. Find out what your needs are so I can serve you better.
