Introduction

Howdy! My name is Jonathan. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University, where I got my BS in Applied Mathematics. I began tutoring 9 years ago, starting with a position at The Tutoring Center in Texas and eventually going into freelance work and working as a teaching fellow while a student at Texas A&M University for both the mathematics and physics departments. I also taught high school mathematics for two years in the classroom before returning to freelance tutoring work. My tutoring style employs the Socratic method. I ask probing questions, encouraging students to think critically about problem solving and therefore learn the material as opposed to just memorizing it. This way they retain the knowledge after putting it down on an exam paper, and remain prepared and confident for final exams and future coursework. I offer tutoring for all ages, at all levels of math up to Calculus AB. Additionally I can help you prepare for the SAT, ACT, or GRE. I am available almost any time of the week, depending on how many students I have at any given time. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you reach your potential!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I am happy to offer a discount on a second session, as well as intermittent discounts for weekly clients.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to start a session by getting to know the student better, both personally and academically. Then I identify where they need help in their studies and get straight to work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Bachelors Degree in Applied Mathematics, and have been tutoring all levels up to Calculus for 8 years. I have worked with students ranging in age from elementary schoolers to middle-aged adults returning to university. Additionally I worked as a high school mathematics teacher for 2 years in both virtual and classroom environments.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got my first job at The Tutoring Center in Texas when I was 16 years old. I fell in love with the work I did and have been doing it ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with every type of student: from elementary school children needing an assist in developing strong foundations to be successful at math throughout their education, to students who just need to increase their grade by a certain amount of points to get their goal GPA, to perfectionists who will settle for nothing less than 100% on their report card, to adults who are returning to their education and need help remembering some math skills they may have lost over their years in the workforce. Whatever their needs are, I adjust my style with each client to satisfy them.
