Introduction

Do you feel confused about how to get the results you want in your singing? Frustrated with the way it feels and sounds? Maybe you're dealing with vocal fatigue or even pain when you sing? Or you still don’t really understand how your voice works or what your “technique” is... And what you REALLY want is to stop thinking about technique at all so you can get into character and let your expressive artistry shine! That’s where I come in. My job is to help you sing the way YOU want to with less effort and more joy! My name is Madeline, I'm a Voice Teacher and Professional Singer, and I give singers like you the tools and knowledge to get the results you want in your singing. Work privately with me through online lessons via Skype, Facetime, or Zoom and take the guessing game out of vocal technique! Through specific tools and exercises, you will find consistency, flexibility, and beauty in your singing. I teach all styles of music, with a focus on Musical Theatre, Pop, and Operatic singing, and am passionate about creating meaningful partnerships with my students where I become not only your vocal teacher, but also a mentor and guide for your performing endeavors. Sing with Madeline is a safe space for you to improve your vocal technique and performance skills, gain confidence, nurture an empowering relationship with your singing, and discover your authentic voice through online voice lessons! *Subscription Packages with discounts available!! Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My studio uses a monthly subscription model. This means you'll choose how many lessons you want per month, your automated payment will be processed on the same day each month, and you'll schedule your lessons at your convenience using my online calendar.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
All new students through Thumbtack receive a FREE 30 minute lesson to make sure we're a good fit. We will meet online (either on Skype, FaceTime, or Zoom), chat about your vocal history and goals, then you'll sing a line or two for me and I'll give you specific techniques to address what you want to work on in your singing. If you want to sign up for more lessons, I'll explain how it all works and answer any questions you may have.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
BM , Vocal Performance, Indiana University, 2014 MM, Vocal Performance, Indiana University, 2016 Voice Function 101 and Mechanics of Mix and Belt Certifications I am a professional Musical Theatre Performer and have performed countless times over the last 20 years in a variety of styles including opera, art song, oratorio, musical theatre, pop, jazz, choral, and gospel. I've had the pleasure of performing in beautiful spaces from Carnegie Hall, Don't Tell Mama, and Le Poisson Rouge in NYC, to Music Hall with the Cincinnati Opera, and touring shows across the world, including New York, Vienna, Florence, Arezzo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Cincinnati, Dayton, and Indianapolis.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Sing with Madeline began in 2018 because I wanted to become the voice teacher I always wished I had. I believe in student-led learning with an emphasis on voice science tools and creating a patient, compassionate, safe space to play in together. All that to say, you get to decide how you want to sing and I give you the tools to get there. You'll never hear me say "that's not right" or "you can't do that". I'm here to empower you with the knowledge you need to express the way YOU want to :) and I truly believe we can't learn a new skill unless we feel safe to try new things and make big mistakes.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with singers who are committed to improving their vocal and performance abilities. Whether that's in opera, musical theatre, or pop, my singers are dedicated to learning how to use their voice at a high level so as to express themselves fully in their performances.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently held my first themed virtual masterclass called All About Auditions and it was SO MUCH FUN! I included a picture of it in the photos on my profile. 5 singers joined me on Zoom for 3 hours- I gave a lecture covering all things related to auditions (what to expect, how to prepare, important mindset shifts, etc), then each singer worked with me 1-1 for 20 minutes. They sang their audition cut, got positive feedback from the other singers, and coached with me on how to improve it! The vibes were so supportive and encouraging and every singer showed up ready to work. I'll definitely be offering more themed masterclasses in the future!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Don't settle for "good enough"! You only get one voice- treat it carefully. Take sample lessons and make sure you're a good fit with a teacher before committing.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What are my singing goals? What am I currently struggling with or would like to get better at? What am I looking for in a voice teacher? Am I committed to showing up and putting in the work to improve my singing?
