How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been practicing yoga for over 25 years. After a career spent sitting behind a desk, I had the opportunity to transition into helping others recover from the same type of work through yoga. Meditation, breathwork, and awareness practices have helped me in all aspects of my life. Yoga helps me lower stress, stay positive in the face of life’s adversities, and to be an overall more calm and centered person! I love being able to share all the wonderful benefits of yoga with others.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Most of my students are busy professionals or parents who need to fit yoga into their life without the hassle of getting to the gym or the studio at the right time for group classes. You can really benefit from yoga on your schedule plus the accountability and certainty your time is held on the calendar. I also work with clients facing setbacks like knee injury, shoulder injury, back injury, cancer treatment, and even grief and loss. Most of my students work with me 2-3 days per week for years at a time.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I am genuinely fond of all my private yoga clients. Recently, a client graduated from a chair-supported practice to a full mat-based practice. This was after about 6 months spent developing balance in standing postures and mobility work to easily get up and down off the floor. This student felt incredibly accomplished that day and I was very impressed by their dedication and perseverance.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Spend some time with your yoga teacher and ask them for a demonstration of the type of class they would teach to make sure they are a good fit for you and/or your employees.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Ask your yoga teacher about their background in anatomy and physiology if you would like to address physical concerns such as modifying for injury or helping with back pain. Some schools of yoga focus much more heavily on meditation and philosophical practices rather than movement and exercise science.
